Individual Voluntary Agreement
First of all an Individual Voluntray Agreement is not the correct term. It is an Individual Voluntary Arrangement or IVA. The mention of IVA's has become a lot more apparent in recent years and months as more and more of us get ourselves into debt. Although the IVA has been around for quiet a few years now it has fast become one of the most popular ways to deal with debt.
The IVA is a debt solution if you have debts over £15,000 and if you are already having difficulty making payments towards your exisiting unsecured loans and credit card debts. Note that any secured loans you may have cannot be taken into consideration under an IVA. Remember it's not an Individual Voluntary Agreement.
The may solutions for debt relief have been pushed down our throat with the aid of massive TV adverts on daytime TV especially. Plus big adverts in a lot of the major papers and local newspapers too. There appears to be have been a sudden growth in debt help companies in recent years and a lot of these companies are in it for a quick buck; making money off the misery of others.
One of the main problems with these debt help companies is they can 'advise' you to take a debt help options which may not necessarily be the best option financially for you. However, it may be financially better for the debt help company.
For example if your debts are over £15,000 then an Individual Voluntary Agreement, sorry Arrangement, may be advised but if you have a lot of disposable income then this option may not necessarily be the right option. For example you may be better off taking out a debt consolidation loan to clear all the debts on credit cards and only pay one low monthly fee.
However, if you think an IVA is the right option for you then you will need to secure the help of an Insolvency Practitioner (IP). They will handle all the paperwork and actions required to start an IVA. This will take a lot of stress away from you while they deal with your creditors.
